Adam Russo was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 12th, 1983. He grew up in Vaudreuil-Dorion, just west of Montreal. He started playing hockey when he was 5 years old and played all of his minor hockey for La Presqu'ile and Lac St. Louis. He started as a forward but within 2 seasons of rotating positions, decided the goaltending life was the life for him. Adam also played AAA hockey during the spring and summers as he grew up. After years of being told he was too small, and continuously being rewarded with league MVP awards, he started to force people to notice. After playing his minor and major bantam for the Lac St. Louis West Tigers, he graduated to the Gatineau Intrepides, a Midget AAA team in Gatineau, Quebec. After a great year there under the tutelage of his coach and mentor Stephane Proulx, the present goalie coach of the Olympiques de Gatineau (QMJHL), he was drafted in the 2nd round, 29th overall to the Acadie Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He played for "Le Titan" for four seasons. In 2002-03, he tied Nick Sanza and Roberto Luongo for the league record in single season shutouts with seven. That same year, he won both the Jacques Plante trophy as best goaltender in the QMJHL and the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) Goaltender of the Year. He was also named to the CHL's First All-Star Team. As a progression over his 4 years in the "Q" he was named to the All Rookie Team (00-01), Second All-Star Team (01-02), and the First All-Star Team (02-03) of the QMJHL at the Golden Puck Awards banquets. He holds the career Season/Playoff record in the QMJHL for shutouts with a total of 23. He also owned the QMJHL career playoff record for shutouts with 9 for years (recently passed).

He turned pro in 2004-05 and went overseas to the Italian Serie A League with HC Alleghe and HC Asiago. He went on to play for Torino, Merano and HC Bolzano (where he won 2 championships back to back) in Italy, before joining the French league "Magnus" in 2008-09 with ASG Tours where he was named to the French Ligue Magnus All-Star Team. Over his 5 years in Europe, he was a part of the Italian National Team Program. He was involved in 4 World Championships and in 08-09, won Gold at the D1 B IIHF World Championships.

In 2009-10, he returned to North America to play in the IHL with the Port Huron Icehawks. During this season, he was called up to the AHL (American Hockey League) by the Houston Aeros, the Minnesota Wild's farm team. At the end of the season he participated in the 2010 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in Germany, where he played against both Team Canada and Team Latvia in the preliminary round. In the 2010-2011 season, he joined the Quad City Mallards of the Central Hockey League. During that season, he got called up to the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL.

During the 2011-2012 season, he enjoyed CHL goalie of the week awards 3 times and was a finalist for CHL Goalie of the Year. He brought the Wichita Thunder to the league final where they lost, and unfortunately Adam suffered a concussion in game 2 and was unable to play after that. During the off season, he was acquired by the Arizona Sundogs.

After his stay in the US, he joined the LNAH which is a "professional" league based out of the province of Quebec. He has played for the Valleyfield Braves who later moved to Laval, the Sorel-Tracy Eperviers, and back to the Laval Predateurs. He now plays in St-Georges-de-Beauce for the "Cool FM". He has enjoyed multiple "Goalie of the Week" and "Goalie of the Month" awards, a "Goalie of the Year" finalist nomination and for the 2016-17 season, he was voted "Goalie of the Year" of the LNAH.
